Pitsidia is a small holiday resort with around 600 inhabitants in the south of the island of Crete and around 3 km from the world-famous former hippie town of Matala. The city of Heraklion is 65 km away and Rethymno around 79 km. The sea and the long and famous sandy beach of Comos can be easily reached on foot. Pitsidia is a district of the municipality of Timbaki and belongs to the prefecture of Heraklion. In the area around Pitsidia there is also the historical excavation site of Phaistos, which is considered the most famous on the island after Knossos and is about 6 km away.
