- Nationals from EU Member States have the right to enter Cyprus by simply showing a valid EU passport or ID Card without having to register upon arrival.
- If there is any intention to stay for more than three months, then they have to apply for a permit
- The residence permit for employment purposes is valid for a 5-year period
- Non-EU nationals wishing to reside and work in Cyprus need to apply to the Civil Registry and Migration Department for a Temporary Employment and Residence Permit. These Permits are usually issued for a period of 1-2 years but become void if the holder is out of Cyprus for more than three continuous months.
- Non EU citizens who legally purchase a property in Cyprus of a value exceeding €300,000.00, are entitled to apply for and receive an immigration permit. An immigration permit is the equivalent to a permanent residence permit in Cyprus.
- In 2020 the following criteria apply to investors looking for Cyprus citizenship (legal status): The applicant is required to buy a house or apartment in Cyprus for at least €500.000 (plus VAT if any). It is not allowed for the investor to sell the primary residence.
- The government of Cyprus as part of its policies to attract foreign investment has established the Cypriot Investment Programme. It gives opportunities for investors to get a Cypriot passport for them and their family with investments starting from 2 million euros.
